Stage Disciplines

ISTD: Tap, Modern
Jazz, Street Dance, ACRO

Becoming a successful dancer requires a rounded training, covering all disciplines. At MBA, we encourage our students to take part in all genres; this is so that we can prepare them and provide them with the necessary skills to be successful within the industry. A strong technical foundation enables a dancer to focus on their style and performance.

Like Ballet, Modern Dance is an incredibly important discipline that will further enhance a students training. The ISTD Modern Dance syllabus provides vibrant, energetic and fun grades containing exercises, dances and amalgamations, whilst developing correct posture, structure and technique.

MBA's jazz classes are fun and energetic, whilst concentrating on correct technique, strength and flexibility. In this class, we work on necessary dance content (kicks, leaps and turns) to develop skills and prepare our students for auditions. Whilst exploring different styles, we believe it is of the utmost importance to provide our students with the ability to pick up and perform given dance sequences, quickly and efficiently.

Tap completes the full 'dancers' package, and here at MBA we pride ourselves in not only offering the ISTD graded syllabus, but also Tap Coaching classes to enhance the skill and required technique. Tap dance develops and magnifies a performers natural inner rhythmical quality and in turn, provides them with a greater musical understanding.

ISTD Modern and Tap examinations are held once to twice yearly at the discretion of the principal.

ACRO uses strength and flexibility to perform gymnastics-based tricks. This class teaches and improves flexibility, balance, strength and coordination. ACRO is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, ACRO dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements within a dance context.

Risen from the musical terrain of old school New York – block parties, raves, nightclubs – Street Dance is naturally rooted in rap, hip hop, funk and house, and therefore finds rhythm, poetry and lyricism intrinsic to its energy and power. It is also however, an evolution of traditional dance forms like jazz, which were taken out of their professional contexts and applied more freely in open spaces in an outgoing urbanisation of genres. MBA are proud to have introduced Street Dance to our curriculum.

Classical Training

RAD: Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. A strong technique is vital to grow, not only as a classical dancer, but as a rounded performer. At MBA we are proud to offer RAD (graded and vocational) training at it's optimum, as well as additional Ballet Coaching classes that are in place to enhance not only technique, but also musicality in performance. RAD examinations are held once to twice yearly at the discretion of the Principal and Head of Ballet.

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the most dominant genres throughout the industry.

Musical Theatre

Singing, Dancing, Acting

Musical Theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines song, spoken dialogue, acting and movement. In this class, we study many West End and Broadway musicals (old and new) enabling each performer to discover and develop their skills and star quality. Musical Theatre is an art that nurtures and enhances self confidence within each and every student; bringing out the very best in all our budding stars!
